Susie Maloyan put seafood in the brand on day one. The same logic that drives the beef program — buy the best, ship it correctly, sell it to people who care — governs the seafood program. Most online seafood is graded loosely, processed for shelf life rather than flavor, and treated chemically (sodium tripolyphosphate, the wet-pack scallop trick) to gain weight. We don't do any of that.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is frozen seafood as good as fresh?

Often better. Fish flash-frozen on the boat at peak quality holds at that quality for months. "Fresh" fish at most retailers has been thawed from frozen, sat in transit, then re-iced. Properly frozen-then-thawed beats poorly-handled "fresh" every time.

How long does shipped frozen seafood last in the freezer?

Properly stored at 0°F or below: lobster tails six to nine months, scallops six months, tuna and salmon three to four months at peak quality. Always thaw in-fridge, never at room temperature.

What is the most luxurious seafood you can buy online?

By price and rarity: A-grade caviar (kaluga, osetra), bluefin tuna otoro, cold-water spiny lobster tails, and live diver scallops. Second City Prime sources all four categories.

Wild-caught vs farmed — which should I buy?

Wild-caught for salmon, tuna, and crab. Farmed is acceptable when the program is well-managed. We default to wild and only carry farmed when the program meets our standard.

How do you ship frozen seafood?

Overnight courier in insulated coolers with food-grade dry ice. Orders placed before 2pm CT typically arrive next-business-day.

What if my seafood arrives partially thawed?

Slightly cold-but-not-frozen is normal at the surface. If the core is solidly cold (below 40°F) it's safe to refreeze or cook within 24–48 hours. If anything arrives warm or smells off, contact us — the Second-to-None Guarantee covers it.
